style for the senses.
I wanted to try out a new post idea that I think would be a fun addition to my regular rotation. Today is Thursday, which is normally reserved for Thrifted Thursdays. I have had a lot of success with these posts, so don’t think for a minute that I won’t be bringing back some great finds for less.
It’s just that fall is around the corner and I know you must be making your shopping lists (and checking them twice…ew, was that really a Christmas reference already?). I want to help you get everything you want and still have cash left over to pay your hydro bills (barf).
So my A-HA! moment came while I was in Collingwood last week and one of our waitresses had on a very cute pair of royal blue smoking shoes. For those of you who aren’t familiar with this must-have trend for Fall 2012, here are Jimmy Choo’s latest pair:
These smouldering shoes are very of-the-moment and I couldn’t help but complement our server on her very nice slippers. She immediately said “thanks, they were only $20!”.
I don’t know what it is about us women and our need to give strangers the down-low on the amazing deal we got on our purchases. I would never say “thanks, this purse cost me like $560″ but I always seem to blurt out “thanks, you won’t believe what I paid for this purse…$25 and it’s real leather!”. It’s a disease, really.
Maybe she wanted to tell me how cheap they were so that I didn’t think she had a truck-load of money and didn’t need my 15% gratuity? Maybe she wanted to justify why she was wearing suede shoes while working around spilly martinis? Most likely, she could probably tell that I was also a fashion lover and that she just wanted to share the scoop on where she bought something great for a lot less.
That’s what I love about fashion and blogging. You never know where your inspiration is going to come from. While the splurge vs. save concept is nothing new – it is something that I get asked about all the time. Unfortunately, I am not a mall rat (despite what you think) but I do have the internet (duh!). With a little pre-shop research I can almost always find a look I want for a heck of a lot less than designer duds.
Most of the “less” looks found in magazines and online are through USA retailers. That doesn’t always do us Canadians much good when we have to pay for shipping and duty (not to mention the hassle of customs). To differentiate myself -I’m all for keeping it north of the border.
I know, I know…enough talk already. Show the goods!
The Look: Jimmy Choo Slippers available at Nordstrom $677
For Less: Aldo Remfold Slipper - $70
Smoking shoes are hot for this fall. Whether they have studs, tassles, contrast trim or done up in patent or suede - these are definitely on my list. To keep the look from being too a la Hue Hefner, pair these with a flirty dress or a flowy tunic blouse and slim leg pants.
What do you think about this new concept? I hope to bring some head-to-toe looks as well as, accessories, handbags, shoes, jackets, and more.
I think it could be totally fun. So will Visa.
